Be Thankful

Posted by digitalcajun on October 2, 2008

Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire.

If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don’t know something, for it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times.

During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations,

because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for each new challenge,

because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes.

They will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you’re tired and weary, because it means you’ve made a difference.

It’s easy to be thankful for the good things.

A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are also thankful for the setbacks.

Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive.

Find a way to be thankful for your troubles, and they can become your blessings.

Top Five mistakes Women Make in Business

Posted by digitalcajun on August 15, 2008

1.  Flighty Networking – Most people make the mistake in thinking that networking means attending as many events as possible and pitching their business to everyone.  This is simply impossible and not a productive way to spend your time.  Instead, analyze who will be attending an event and decide if it’s smart to invest your time to be there.  Once you’ve found a potential prospect, describe yourself and your business in an interesting way.  Remember the old rule:  It’s better to be interested than interesting, so ask questions and listen to what they have to say about your business.

2.  Being too busy to volunteer – Always be a ready volunteer, whether it be for a local group you’ve always been a part of or a business-oriented group.  You can make some useful connections when you’re working with people for a single cause.  It could lead to a greater working relationship in the future.

3.  Inflexibility – You can’t run today’s business with yesterday’s playbook.  Always be open to listening, observing and trying new things.  Try to think about what your customers will want five years from now, and try to adjust your business in that direction.

4.  Demonstrating your toughness – Some women have had to be “tough” to survive in male-dominated industries, but the really smart ones take a different approach.  Women are strong for their social skills and ability to adapt.  Develop a cooperative, consensus-building model in dealing with others and it’ll win out every time.

5.  Working from a position of scarcity – So many have a “scarcity mentality,” believing there is not enough time, money, customers, qualified employees, etc.  there is enough of everything, but you just have to look at situations from a different perspective to see it all.

Viagra for women?

Posted by digitalcajun on August 15, 2008

Viagra may offer hope to women who experience sexual problems caused by antidepressants, a small study shows.  Up to 70 percent of men and women who take antidepressants for major depression experience sexual dysfunction, according to an article in this month’s issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

“In women, the drugs are associated with painful intercourse, loss of desire and lack of orgasm,” says co-author Julia Heiman, director of the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction at Indiana University.  “Up to 70 percent stop taking their medication as prescribed within the first few months.  In her study, 72 percent of women who took Viagra saw their symptons improve, compared with 27 percent of women who took placebos.

Doctors randomly assigned 49 woment to take Viagra for eight weeks and 49 to take a placebo.  Neither doctors nor patients, whose average age was 37, knew which pill they were taking.  Although Viagra improved the women’s ability to have orgasms, it didn’t boost their sex drive, according to the researchers.  Women taking Viagra also were more likely to report side effects, such as indigestion, hot flashes, visual problems and nasal congestion.

Q&A on Dentistry

Posted by digitalcajun on August 15, 2008

Q:  How can a chipped or broken tooth be fixed?

A:  Bonding a tooth and placing a veneer on a tooth are two ways of restoring a broken  or chipped tooth.  These treatments restore the tooth to the original shape and size.  Both of these procedures require little loss of tooth structure.  They restore the natural appearance of teeth and encourage a confident smile.  Bonding materials are colored plastics.  The bonding material is applied to the tooth, formed into the proper shape, and hardened with a light or chemical process.  Veneers are thin shells of tooth-colored plastics or porcelain.  They are custom-made and then bonded oonto the teeth using a tooth-colored cement.  Bonding and veneer treatments are procedures that greatly improve the look of a smile.  They must be maintained with good oral hygiene and regular dental visits.  If you have any questions about these procedures, contact your pediatric dentist.     (L. Jacobs, DDS /Pediatric Dentistry)
